Amichai ben Devora (Missing Israeli)

Last Tuesday , 24 year-old Amichai Shtainmitz (from Maaleh Levonah) and a friend set out on a one-day trek from the Indian village of Khirganga to the Parvati Valley. The two split up at some point, but when Shtainmitz did not return, his friend notified Israeli authorities.
Every Friday (during the five months that he has been in India), Amichai has taken care to call his parents in Israel. However, this week, they did not hear from him.
The Chabad House in Menali, which is run by Rabbi Baruch Shenhav, has set up an incident room and has sent other Israeli tourists on searches throughout the region. A search and rescue team from the Harel Insurance Company has also flown to India to help locate Amichai.

Levi Pekar, 21, and Yehuda Kirsh, 23, are in Manali as part of Chabad’s worldwide summer visitation program. The pair is keeping a journal of their activities and these notes are about the search.
