Do I understand you? I think.

And I think of the pride a parent feels after taking off training wheels and letting a child bike off on his own, looking only to the bright future ahead... they wanted to help him help himself.

And the resentment a child feels when a schoolfriend returns his training wheels and bikes off on his own with nary a glance back... he wanted a biking partner.

And also, the sadness a parent feels after taking off the training wheels and watching the child walk away from the bike.

The 'them' and the 'they' does not refer to Israel.
